Quiet, peace, tranquility and serenity, I could go on and on with a list of adjectives describing the beautiful freshwater lake ‘Zell’ in the town of Zell Am See. Situated just 1 hr 30 minutes away from Salzburg this magnificent lake has a lot of great activities for every taste.
Due to it’s peaceful and quiet atmosphere, we choose this location with the sole purpose to detoxify, relax and replenish our minds and bodies. There is no better way to recharge yourself than be in nature and breathe fresh air, away from the distractions of everyday living.
We stayed here for a month and within this time period, we had beautiful sunny days and a couple of days of snow.(speaking to the locals, it was really unusual for the month of October).
I would recommend visiting Lake Zell in September or October, the weather is still amazing and it’s not overly populated with tourists.
Here are some eco-friendly outdoor activities you might enjoy while visiting the lake. Please be a good eco-tourist, by not littering and by respecting nature and the surroundings.
- swimming at the beach lido Thumersbach (solar heated pools)
- beach volleyball there is a custom-made sand pitch in the public swimming area of Zell am See
- rent an electric boat, a pedal boat or a rowboat from www.scheicher-boote.at
- walking around the lake using the trail
TIP: If you are visiting during the summer months get the card “Zell am See-Kaprun Summer Card“. It’s very convenient if you intend to visit several sights in the area including the Gorge and the mountains.
