City Adventures: Escape to Prague

For fans of architecture, history, and cultural offerings, Prague is an excellent destination. Prague city breaks have always been in demand because of its majestic views, top-notch attractions, and world-class concerts, among other things. With visitors flocking to the charming Czech capital for its nightlife, art, beautiful Old Town (and its renowned beer), a trip to Prague will be remembered for a lifetime.

Prague is Paris’ equal in terms of architectural beauty. So while you’re there, make sure you visit the stunning Prague Castle (or Pražský hrad in Czech). This is the largest ancient castle in the world, and has been the seat of monarchs since its founding in the 9th century. With its fairytale spires and its vast collection of cultural and artistic treasures within fortified walls, it’s not hard to see why the castle is Prague’s premier attraction.

While in Prague’s Old Town, don’t forget to walk over the Charles Bridge: a totally free activity and a must-see while in town. This lovely medieval stone bridge is best enjoyed early in the morning, before the hordes of tourists, hawkers and buskers descend. Enjoy the phenomenal views over the river as you stroll over this most iconic of Prague’s sights.

Another high point of any trip to Prague has to be the obligatory visit to the Old Town Hall and the Astronomical Clock. Walk over the cobblestones, enjoy a crepe, and try to time your visit so you can watch the figures move around when the clock strikes the hour. It’s also possible to take guided tours of the Old Town, and to climb the Old Town Hall tower for amazing views of this picturesque city.

If, like many others, you enjoy a bit of what the Germans call ostalgie (a nostalgia for life under communist rule), then you will love the fascinating KGB Museum. This quirky little museum explores some of the darker parts of Prague’s recent past, with informative tour guides really making a visit here worthwhile.

After a long day of sightseeing, you might want to drop in at classy wine bar Vinograf for a quiet drink before heading out for some music at the Smetana Concert Hall. For dinner, enjoy modern Czech cuisine at Terasa u Zlate Studne. Prague is the perfect city break location.
