Eco-Luxe: Sergio Rossi Shoes

Oh la la! Finally, you can buy eco friendly Sergio Rossi shoes!

It may be a bit of an anomaly, but the Milan-based footwear brand has announced a collaboration with the Green Carpet Challenge (GCC), the green fashion initiative founded by Livia Firth, wife of actor Colin Firth–and we couldn’t be more excited!

The collection features an evening pochette and stiletto, both with label’s signature butterfly motif in lead-free Swarovski Advanced crystals. Pieces are crafted using local, sustainable Italian silk from a family-run mill that was developed especially for the line, and the Eco-Age visited the production facilities to ensure they were ethical. There’s also a touch of  chrome-free leather finishing from Europe and nickel-free metals within the shoes and framing the clutches.


It’s not surprising the Rossi brand would take greener steps such as these since the designer is under the Kering umbrella. Formerly referred to as The Gucci Group, Kering has made sustainability a core value of its mission, and in fact Kering has pledged to offset all carbon emissions resulting from this project.

Sergio Rossi head designer Angelo Ruggeri and the Firths were present this week at London’s Wellington Arch for a cocktail party to celebrate their partnership, as was Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault and the British Fashion Council’s Caroline Rush.


“The opportunity to work with Eco-Age and develop an organic silk yarn was so exciting,” said Angelo Ruggeri, design director at Sergio Rossi, in a statement. “I’ve used the butterfly as a symbol of delicacy and to add a touch of poetry and femininity to this project. I am so proud of this collection, as it represents the essence of Sergio Rossi.”
