In this about.me world of facebook, selfies and "i"-phones, the concept of "self care" is often mistaken for vanity, overindulgence, or plain old selfishness. For me, however, putting yourself first has nothing to do with being selfish. It's about being self-aware in a divine sense; consciously loving yourself because you know or want to know that you're innately worth it.
Sounds great in theory. But for most of us, making self-care a priority can be challenging. In this issue, we're sharing our favorite self-care rituals, from taking frequent personal retreats to clearing out toxic energy and emotions with regular — ahem — colonics. Then, we'll help you amp up your daily self-care practice with healthy cuisine, like a delish vegan pomegranate salad recipe chocked full of protein and a DIY DEET-free insect repellant perfume you can make at home. Want more great ideas? Then don't miss a day of Conscious Living for fresh tips, eco treats, and inspiring news.
Until then, take a moment to consider this self-care affirmation:
"I am worthwhile. I refuse to shrink. I choose to take up space. I choose to honor my feelings. I choose to give myself permission to get my needs met. I choose to make self-care a priority. I choose me." – Daniell Koepke
