In this about.me world of facebook, selfies and “i”-phones, the concept of “self care” is often mistaken for how many followers you have on instagram. This amounts to a world where vanity, overindulgence and plain old selfishness have become the norm. But putting yourself first has nothing to do with being selfish. It’s about being self-aware in a divine sense; consciously loving yourself because you know or want to know that you’re innately worth it.
Sounds great in theory. But for most of us, making self-care a priority can be challenging. In this issue, we’re sharing our favorite self-care rituals, from taking frequent personal retreats to clearing out toxic energy and emotions with regular — ahem — colonics. Then, we’ll help you amp up your daily self-care practice with healthy cuisine, like a delish vegan pomegranate salad recipe chocked full of protein and a DIY DEET-free insect repellant perfume you can make at home. Want more great ideas? Then don’t miss a day of Conscious Living for fresh tips, eco treats, and inspiring news.
Until then, take a moment to consider this self-care affirmation:
“I am worthwhile. I refuse to shrink. I choose to take up space. I choose to honor my feelings. I choose to give myself permission to get my needs met. I choose to make self-care a priority. I choose me.” – Daniell Koepke
