Birthdays are stressful for lots of people. Though we are only 1 day older than the day before, adding on that additional year makes us suddenly feel old.
I have always had a different attitude about birthdays. On my birthday when someone asks “how do you feel,” I say “exactly the age I am.” I don’t necessarily think that at 30 I was younger than I am now.
Youth isn’t necessarily so magical if you neglect the needs of your body and mind. Yes, of course you are aging and growing older, but you can look and feel better each year. Once you get that, then you have found the magic. Your energy is calmed, your mind lets go of its rigidity and relaxes, and your face reflects your internal space as your lines loosen, your edges are eased and you come across as a much more physically attractive and radiant person.
The truth is: I don’t want to feel 30 anymore. I was so uptight and restrictive and didn’t allow myself to just enjoy life. I like the age that I am. I feel better right now than I felt then. How? Because I take care of it now. Yoga, juicing, walks on the beach, bubbles in the bath, licks from my dog, and snuggles from my man… are a regular part of my healthy balanced lifestyle.
It’s a decision, a daily decision.
